Happy New Year!

January 8, 2017 by Larry Leave a Comment

Well, it’s the New Year, and past time for an update; so will try to come up with something with a learning curve. First off, finely got my little Musk-OX CNC router set back up and running again!! As I wanted make some Christmas gifts.

Musk-OX up and running again.

No more than got it up and running and the old computer I used for it died. Was working fine one night when I shut it down, the next morning would not boot-up. I dug out an old laptop and after a lot of fooling around it is working fine; great, actually.

The first project after getting Musk-OX setting up was this little Christmas sled from Vectric free November 2016 project. I think it came out quite nice after Joy’s paint job!

Then we moved on to something I’d been wanting to try since building the Musk-OX. A lithosphere cut in Corina, or in this, case Candlestone that I found on eBay.

Lithosphere started

That’s the start of about eight hours of cutting with a 4.82 Deg Tapered Angle Ball Tip radius=0.5mm X 1/4″ Shank tungster Solid Carbide Bit. After some time you end up with something like this.

Lithosphere of Maranda in Candlestune.
Lithosphere of Kat & Matt.

Next up, the frames.

Then we cut the back with a pocket for LED’s and you end up with something like this.

Unlit lithosphere of Kat & Matt.

Plug it in… or as Joy likes to say, “Wait for it…!”

Kat & Matt’s lighted lithosphere.

One for Maranda, the granddaughter.

and…. the frame of one more I’m working on.

We are also working on / designing a little bigger Musk-OX CNC made mostly from wood, but that we will save for next time.
